One of the frequently asked questions by visitors to Tote Hole Studio is, Where did you think up that name? Tote Hole Studio overlooks the valley of the Boyne river. Dufferin County was settled in the mid 1850's by Northern Irish immigrants and many local place names reflect that heritage. The name 'Tote Hole' is a tip of the hat to these hardy pioneers who gave the valley its name. Old Timers would tell misbehaving youngsters they would be 'toted' to the rim of the valley and dumped in with the goblins and witches if they did not shape up. Perhaps these supernatural residents have moved further west for they have not been seen by anyone in recent memory. Tote Hole Studio is open by chance or appointment and visitors are always welcome.

Before you start painting put a drop of water on each sample of tube paints on your pallette - this will soften the paint and make it ready to use. While you are setting up your materials think about what you are about to paint. This puts your mind into painting mode and gets you ready for the adventure to begin.
